KARAYZ, Leslie “Les” George – 63, White Rock, NS passed away peacefully at home on Fri, August 25, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Tillsonburg, ON, he was the son of the late Leslie Karayz, and Cora (Karayz) Pineo.
Les worked at different jobs, before working for Clifford Long & Sons Ltd mill in White Rock for 34 years. Following closure of the local mill, Les went to work for the Village of New Minas, and was well liked and respected by his co-workers. In his spare time, Les enjoyed hunting and fishing, and doing odd jobs for people in the community.
Les is survived by his wife of 29 years, Valerie(Munroe) (Brown)Karayz; step-sons, Richard (Marilyn Atwell) Brown, Kentville; and Michael A. Brown, Kentville; mother, Cora Pineo and step-father, Malcolm Pineo, Wolfvile; sisters, Debbie Abdel-Kader, Pennsylvania; Donna (Robert) Smith, Booklyn; Diannah (John) Storrie, New Minas; Mary (Mathus) James, Caledon, ON, as well as grandchildren, several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Leslie Karayz.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral service, as per his request, a Celebration of Life will be held Sunday September 10th 2017 from 12:00-3:00 at the Louis Millett center. The family would like to thank the staff of the VG Site, QEII, especially the hematologists, the Valley Regional Hospital, Dr. Peter Segato, and VON palliative care program services for their assistance and comfort at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

The following is the obituary for our dear colleague and friend, Lynn Spencer.
SPENCER (Miller) Lynn Wanda, age 54, of Waterville, Kings Co. It is with heavy hearts that her family regrets to announce the sudden death of Lynn on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by her family. Born in St. John’s NL, Lynn was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth “Betty” (Delahunty) and Chester Miller and sister, Sharon. She leaves to mourn her soul mate of 26 years, Robert “Yogi”; sisters, Elizabeth, Kathy (Lindsey); brothers, Ches (Mary Anne), Rick (Carol), and Ern (Angela); nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Bradley, Kyle, Andy, Kimberly, Rikki, and Brooke; great nieces and nephews, Jamie, Skylor, Bella, and Morgan. Lynn will be remembered for her outgoing personality that created many friendships throughout her life; including, childhood friend, Norine (Darren, Tyler & Taylor); special friends, Sandra & Paul and Joanne &Tim. Lynn was an active member of her community. She worked for the Village of New Minas for 15 years. Lynn also volunteered her time at the Waterville Baptist Church, Habitat for Humanity, Happy Eagles Youth Group and Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday in Waterville Baptist Church, 1243 Mill St., Waterville, from where the funeral service will take place at 2 p.m., Monday, January 23. Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating, with a reception to follow at the Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department. New Minas Rec and Kaleidoscope have partnered together to create the New Minas Book Nook! Located outside of the gym at the LMCC, the Book Nook is a place to come when you are looking for something new to read. Borrow a book and return it when you’re done, or leave a new book in its place! Thank you to Donna & Vicki Randell for getting this fabulous project started!
New Minas Recreation’s After School Adventure Club at the LMCC
The After School Adventure Club is for NMES students between the ages of 5-11. The program will take place at the Louis Millett Community Complex and will be coordinated and run by qualified staff, and we will be keeping an instructor:student ratio of 10:1.
This exciting program will provide children with a healthy snack & the opportunity to be active and explore their creativity in the afterschool time period. Weekly programming will include, but not be limited to: Physical activities such as organized games & sports, arts and crafts, outdoor education and free time. Our staff will partner with local businesses and service groups to provide children with an active, fun, stimulating & educational experience throughout the school year.
Fees are charged every day of the week, even those days that children do not attend.
Daily to 5:30 – $8
Fees for half days, 11:30-5:30: $16
Full Day, 8:30-5:30 (In-Service days): $24
