On March 2nd, 2017 at a Special Meeting of the Village of New Minas Commission, there was  a motion passed indicating that the Village was no longer in support of hosting the Apple Blossom Parade or Fireworks.

Dave Chaulk, Chairperson for the Village Commission, is quoted as follows:

“The Village did not initiate contact with the Apple Blossom Festival committee to host the parade, the committee contacted us and said they were looking for a new venue.  We said we were willing to help out and in an effort to be good citizens agreed to host the parade.  We are disappointed with what has transpired since then and do not want to be caught in the middle of a public dispute between the Town of Kentville and the Festival Committee.

We think it’s in the best interests of all concerned for us to pull out in the hope that the Committee and Town can work out their differences and the parade returns to Kentville where a majority of the public clearly want it to be.”

The LMCC Bar Proposal was awarded to the New Minas Lions Club. We look forward to working with the Lions to continue to make the LMCC the place to be!

The 3rd annual Village Food Drive was a huge success. Together with your amazing contributions we were able to deliver 1100 kilograms of food to the Fundy Food Bank! With your generosity we were able to make Christmas brighter for many of our neighbours. Thank you to all who contributed and who continue to make New Minas a “Good Place to Live”.

A review of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) began in September 2015. The Province asked Nova Scotians for their input on suggestions for changes and submissions were received from municipalities, municipal organizations, villages and the public.

Some issues require only minor changes that can advance quickly, while others are more complex and require thorough research and analysis by our working groups.

Please take a moment to review the initially proposed changes and provide feedback until August 31st, 2016.

The Village of New Minas is now offering residents the opportunity to receive notices as an attachment in an e-mail, rather than by regular mail.

In order to receive a water utility and/or tax bill, an e-mail consent form must be filled out and returned to the village office.

New Minas Rec and Kaleidoscope have partnered together to create the New Minas Book Nook! Located outside of the gym at the LMCC, the Book Nook is a place to come when you are looking for something new to read. Borrow a book and return it when you’re done, or leave a new book in its place! Thank you to Donna & Vicki Randell for getting this fabulous project started!book nook 3
