Santa Parade of Lights

The Santa Parade 2009 will officially kick off the New Minas Celebration of Lights with another bigger and better Parade to be held Saturday evening, November 21, at 6:00pm on Commercial Street. Santa parade 2008 doubled the entries of 2007 Santa Parade and the 2009’s Santa parade promises to grow even bigger this season.

Tree Lighting Ceremony, Spectacular Fireworks & Children’s Party

You and your family are cordially invited to attend the New Minas Celebrations of Lights Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Spectacular Fireworks & Children’s Christmas Party on Wednesday, December 2nd, beginning at 6:45 pm at the New Minas Civic Centre.

This annual event will start at the Village’s gigantic Christmas tree between the New Minas Civic Centre and the Skate Park, with Seasons Greetings from invited dignitaries before the Light-up and will then proceed to the New Minas Volunteer Fire Hall, led by the Town Crier, Lloyd Smith, for the continuation of activities with the Children’s Christmas party.

Family Holiday Fun Day

Chili Cook-off, Holiday Spirit Art Contest & Ginger Bread House Contest

Children and youth in the surrounding area are invited to pick up their paint brushes, crayons or markers and use their creative talents on a very special project – A holiday Season Art Display. All young artists’ entries are to be based on our theme: My favorite HOLIDAY memory. Your entry will be on display during the Family Holiday Fun Day scheduled for December 12, 2009 at the County Fair Mall, 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

The contest will be judged by a panel of judges, with the exception of the People’s choice award and the winners will be announced on Saturday December 12th, at 4:00 pm at centre court, County Fair Mall during Family Holiday Fun Day.

Sentimental Journey “Christmas”

Thursday, December 17, 2009, 6 – 9 pm
NMVFD (New Minas Volunteer Fire Dept) Hall

Seniors 50+ are invited to bring friends and quests and join host Loran Fevens for a night out of sentimental music from years past and he will delightfully accept requests from participants.

New Minas Recreation will provide a Swiss Chalet Festive Special, sweets and refreshments for participants. The fee is only $12.00 per participant to register. Please register in advance at the Village office or by phone 902-681-6577, by Monday, December 14, 2009.

Light-Up the Strip Business Lighting Contest AND Residential Lighting Contest

Open to all Businesses and Residence of New Minas

This year there are two categories:

  1. Business
  2. Residential

There are three divisions for each category:

  1. Most lights
  2. Most creative
  3. Best holiday/Christmas scene

New Prize Category this year open to NEW MINAS BUSINESSES ONLY, K-Rock is sponsoring a People’s Choice Award. The prize is a $1,200 K-Rock Advertising Package. Log onto the K-rock Website for more details www.k-rock893.com. There is a Light Up the Strip Link Button on the K-Rock Home Page that will take you to the Contest and all the details for all the Categories and Divisions.

Contest starts December 1st and runs to December 19th, 2009.  Judging will take place between December 14th and 19th for the three regular divisions in each category.
