HOW TO BUILD AN OUTDOOR RINK SESSION
Kings County Recreation Services and New Minas Parks and Recreation Department, will present a 1.5 hour session entitled “ How To Build an Outdoor Rink” to be held at the New Minas Civic Centre, 9209 Commercial St., New Minas, on Monday December 3 at 7:00 pm.
The session is for anyone interested in building an outdoor rink for their community, neighborhood or in their backyard for their family. Some of the topics covered will include; site selection , materials, construction, maintenance, weather factors, tips & tricks,a question and answer period and more.
Each person will receive a resource manual on how to build an outdoor rink, which will contain much of the information presented during the session.
This session is free of charge, however those interested in attending must pre-register by contacting :

The recreation departments of Kings County, Kingston, New Minas and Canning are sponsoring a one day Movie Games workshop. Empower yourself with the language of motion pictures. Learn how you can express yourself and include your friends and family in the fun.

2008 Indoor Golf School

Who? Anybody interested in learning or refining the process of how to swing a golf club.
What? An indoor golf school, focusing on the process of developing and creating a fundamentally sound golf swing.
When? Begins Monday, March 17. Tuesday (18th) Wednesday (19th)
Where? Evangeline Middle School, New Minas. Located across from Ken-Wo Country Club.
Why? This school is a great opportunity for interested individuals to enhance their knowledge as well as their skill of the game. The fundamentals are so crucial in golf. Learn and work at them inside, and the transition to outside will be easier.
The classes are designed for the beginner to learn a lot and the intermediate to have a great refresher course. The best part about teaching indoors is that it helps golfers’ focus on their process, by cutting out the result aspect.
Cost: $ 60 (cash or cheque)

Ross Method Painting Workshop
The
New Minas Recreation Department is very pleased to be partnering
with Sharon Boyd to offer the very popular Bob Ross Method Workshop.
The
Bob Ross Method Workshop is exciting and offers a true and
enjoyable learning experience. Participants will learn the
proper use of
paints and painting tools and in the process, complete a beautiful
landscape painting.
The
workshop format is a one day Saturday class on March 24, 2007
at the New Minas Recreation Department beginning at 9:00 am
and ending mid-afternoon with a class size of 8-10 adult Participants.
Fee
for each participant is only $60.00 which includes instruction
and all materials.

Completion of the course will give you a Wilderness and Remote First Aid certification and Standard First Aid certification - CPR level C recognized in the workplace in N.S. This 8 day advanced program is the most complete and challenging wilderness medical training you can engage in. The WRFR level is designed for Outdoor Professionals who will be managing wilderness activities resulting in advanced medical response. Besides understanding the use of medical gear in the wilderness environment, the program establishes solid rescue interface practices, pharmacology limitations, and students will manage a remote overnight long-term care dilemma.

Eco-Endurance Challenge 2008
Outdoor Enthusiasts / wilderness fanatics:
Halifax Regional Search and Rescue in co-operation with the Orienteering Association of Nova Scotia is pleased to announce Eco-Endurance Challenge 2008. E2C 2008 will be our 8th annual ROGAINE. Each year the E2C grows in terms of number of participants and teams. This year, the E2C planning committee hopes to grow our event and attract over 300 participants - so bring a friend and pass the word.
Profits from the E2C go towards the life-saving activities of Halifax Regional Search and Rescue and outdoor educational programs including the children’s ‘Hug-A-Tree’ program.
By now your feet have healed and you have forgotten the fatigue of 24-hours of fighting through the brush, streams and bogs of E2C 2007. Perhaps you are even thinking, “hey, that was a lot of fun”.
Well, start training for spring, because in 12 weeks, April 26th and 27th 2008, you get to do it all again. E2C 2008 will be held outside Halifax, Nova Scotia in a completely new competition area with a potential 220 square km zone with 60 points to navigate.

Outdoor Survival Course will be Saturday, January 20, 2007,
from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Lockhart & Ryan Memorial
Park in New Minas.
Winter
offers many experiences for the outdoor enthusiast. This
course offers participants an opportunity to test their mental & physical
skills regarding survival in a winter wilderness setting.
Various
presentations and skill sessions are given on the different
aspects of this course including heat loss, metabolism, shelter
building,
signaling, rescue (the will to live).
This
day tests a persons ability to adapt, improvise and overcome
in the winter outdoor environment in an interactive and
informative way.
The Fee for the course is only $15.00 per person
