NEW MINAS CIVIC CENTRE

The New Minas Civic Centre plays an important role in the community. It is located at 9209 Commercial Street, New Minas, Nova Scotia.

The Civic Centre houses the Village of New Minas Administrative Offices including the Clerk Treasurer, Administrative Assistants, etc.

Village business is conducted daily at the Centre, while Commission Meetings are held monthly.

Committee Meetings of the Village (Area Advisory, Finance, Water Commission, Public Works, Recreation Advisory, Source Water protection Committee, and Transportation Advisory Committee, etc.) are held monthly as well.

Municipal, Provincial and Federal Voting Polls are also held at the Centre.

The New Minas Civic Centre includes upper and lower halls, which host recreation department seasonal programs (Seniors Fitness, Parent & Tot Playgroup, etc.), events and courses/clinics, as well as community volunteer groups including New Minas & Area Lions and Lionesses Club, Valley Business Connections, as well as many Brownie and Girl Guide group.

There are numerous social, special events and community events such as weddings, dances, birthday parties, meetings, Apple Blossom Royal Party Dinner, Volunteer Reception, arts sessions, etc., held at the centre on a daily and annual basis.

The Civic Centre is a nice venue for hosting socials and special events because it is equipped with a kitchen, stage, sound system, tables and chairs, air-conditioning,  washrooms, dishwasher, dishes and utensils, seating and lots of equipment and storage area.

The Civic Centre has played host to Al Bernard Magic Shows & Lessons.

New Minas and the Civic Centre annually hosts the Royal Party at Apple Blossom Princess Dinners.

The Recreation Department annually hosts March Break Days Camps, Summer Day Camps, Christmas Tree Lighting, Seasonal Registrations, etc. at the Civic Centre.

RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The New Minas Recreation Advisory Committee consists of three commission members and up to 7 citizen members which oversees the operation of recreation activities and facilities operated by the Village of New Minas. The committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month.

PUBLIC UTILITIES

The New Minas Water & Sewer Commission provides services in the village. The commission is made up of five members and meets monthly.

PLANNING

The New Minas Area Planning Advisory Committee formed in late 1986 is a sub-committee of the Kings County Planning Advisory Committee. The committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month. The committee is made up of three village commissioners; four residents and the municipal councillor who works in close liaison with the Kings County planning staff.
